Low-wage workers too often face intimidation and retaliation when they exercise their legal rights in the workplace. But the Equal Justice Center is changing that. In the last two months, the EJC has recovered tens of thousands of dollars in lost earnings for workers who suffered illegal retaliation after standing up for their rights at work. The EJC won cases for a restaurant cook who was fired after complaining that the restaurant shorted hours from his co-workers’ paychecks; for three warehouse workers who were fired after complaining about unsafe working conditions; and for three restaurant kitchen workers who were fired after demanding to be paid the legal minimum wage rate.
