The Equal Justice Center and Texas Appleseed have crafted Sample Local Rules which demonstrate a straightforward set of county indigent defense procedures that comply with the requirements of the Fair Defense Act.  Local jurisdictions can adopt these sample local rules in whole or in part or adapt them to meet the particular needs of the jurisdiction.  Many Texas counties incorporated provisions from these Sample Local Rules in the indigent defense plans they adopted at the beginning of 2002 to implement the Fair Defense Act.

Version 1.3 of the Sample Local Rules is the most up to date version.
