This report describes how the Equal Justice Center is supporting day laborers in their struggle to find a safe, orderly and dignified place to seek work. This report involves laborers who gather near an Austin Home Depot store to look for jobs with the construction contractors who are drawn to the store. With support from EJC staff, these workers have formed their own day labor committee and are asking the Austin City Council and Home Depot to work with them to establish a safe, orderly, and dignified hiring site next to the Home Depot store which inevitably attracts day laborers, since this is where the contractors and jobs are.
